Obituary

 

First Breath: On September 25, 1986: A son was born to the union of Godwin Nduka Asala and Nina Obiago Asala in Jos Town, Plateau State, Nigeria. His name was Ikechukwu Hope Asala.

Education: Hope Ikechukwu Asala was a certified Professional Engineer. He attended Tender Touch College in Festac Town, Lagos Nigeria, where he graduated High school. He then received his Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical Engineering (1st class Honors) at University of Lagos, his Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering at University of Houston, and was currently seeking his Doctor of Philosophy in Petroleum Engineering at Louisiana State University.

Christian Affiliation: Hope accepted Christ at an early age and was raised up in the fear of God by his dad, Godwin Asala. He was baptized at Redeemed Christian Church of God and later joined the youth fellowship (Salvation and Power Ministries) in his home neighborhood where he served in the church’s children choir. Hope became a member of his wife’s church at Friendship Baptist Church in Corpus Christi TX in 2013.

Love Life: Hope met and Sharmaine Fillmore on July 12 2012 at their favorite Country Night Club, he knew right away she was the one and soon the two married on December 13 2014.  All who know the married couple knew that Hope and Sharmaine loved to have fun, travel together and throw events. In fact they planned and coordinated their own wedding! Hope and Sharmaine was a fun couple that felt like themselves around one another and took time to pray and worship together as well. Both welcomed their first and only baby girl into the world at 6:46pm on August 30th 2015. The married couple named her Adaure, meaning first daughter, born with Joy.

Profession: As an undergrad engineer in training Hope Ikechukwu Asala had interned with TOTAL, and subsequently with SHELL. Deloitte first employed him as an intern from 2008-2009 for his one-year service in Nigeria. In the time he has been residing in the US, Hope worked for Baker Hughes as a reservoir engineer. He proceeded to serve on several graduate assistant roles at UoH and LSU, and has completed two internships with and CHEVRON (SUMMER OF 2017) & EXXON (SUMMER OF 2018 & 2019).

Hope was currently working as a PHD student for his professor Dr. Ipsita Gupta.

Last Smile: The Lord called his sweet child Ikechukwu Hope Asala to be with him on December 13 2019. Those who knew Hope, know that he was kind hearted, God fearing, willing to help others, selfless, goofy, brilliant and loving.

Waiting to meet him at the Heaven Gates is his father Godwin Nduka Asala.

Left in God’s Keeping Are: His Loving Wife-Sharmaine Janess Asala, his daughter Adaure Hannah-Antoinette Asala, His mother Nina Obiago Asala, His two sisters Nkiruka Joy Asala-Aiemenoho and Onyinyechukwu Peace Asala-Olojola, and his two nieces, Sophia and Isabella Aiemenoho; along with other family and friends whose lives have been touched because Hope was apart of their life…
