On January 6th, 1959; in Corpus Christi, Texas; a Baby Girl was born to Ed Lewis and Claudia Mae Mills. Her name was Norma Jean. “NaNa” as she was affectionately known.
Norma Jean attended public school in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she graduated from West Oso High School. She went on to further Her Education at Southern Business School in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Norma Jean accepted Christ at an early age at The Calvary First Baptist Church where she was faithful until Death. She sang in the choir, served and cooked in the H.C. Dilworth Fellowship Hall, was known to bring her Sno Cone Machine and Nachos and Chili Cheese Hot Dogs to the Annual Church picnic. Norma Jean was always there willing to lend a helping hand.
She was employed at The Corpus Christi Naval Base as a cook for many years.
Later in life Norma Jean opened “NaNa’s” Soul Cooking, where she was known for preparing tasty meals for many people. Any time you would go in there you would always see her preparing a meal, and always serving up good food with a smile.
Norma Jean loved Cooking, Singing, Dancing, Traveling, Gambling, and Enjoyed spending time with Her Family and Friends.
On Friday, May 15, 2020; God saw the road was getting rough, and the hills hard to climb, so He closed her weary eyelids and sweet peace she did find…Waiting to meet Her At Heaven’s Gates Were: Her Parents-Ed Lewis and Claudia Mae; Her Grandparents; Her Brother-Lewis Patrick Vurns; A Sister-Kathleen Mills-Allen; And Her Husband-John T. Brown…
Left In God’s Keeping Are: Her Daughters-Aiyisah Mills and Daion Maxwell; Her Son-John Derrick Mills; Her Granddaughters-Porcelain, Ashaiya, Anaiya, Olivia, Kendel, and Jasani; Her Grandsons-Ayion, John Jr., Christian, Anthony, Andrew, Davion, J’Adrian, Edward, Dantέ and Daion; Her Sisters-Linda(Melvin)Brumfield, Mildred Ann(Adrian)Guzman, Yvonne Mills Nash, and Marilyn Williams; Her Best Friend-Stevie Ellison; Her Niece-Erica who was by her side until the end; along with many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
